I use them all the time, and I just wondered how many other poeple are going back to the old ways of the prevention and curing of common ailments.

I use a lot of different things that are natural...and I do see an upsurgance of old ways, but they are slicker and easier to use.

I use tea tree oil for first aid.
I use psyllium husks for regularity.
I use baking soda for all kinds of things.
I clean with vinegar.
I have a few oils (lavender, eucalyptus) for inhaling blends.
I use aloe for sunburn.

Absolutely I do. To me for certain things they are the best. There is a book (I can't remember the name of it...but will get it for you) on American Indians and the cures they use for certain ailments. It is fascinating and most of them I have tried really do work. The pharmaceutical companies these days are making a fortune off of drugs that have the basic chemical structure of many of the plain home remedies our ancestors have used for hundreds of years.

Oh dear! My mother was one of 17 children - a doctor didn't exist to them. LOL They just sent the older kids to the other room (and I literally mean the other room - I think there were 2 rooms in the house...) so her mom could have the next baby. Home remedies was just a thing for me growing up. LOL. I believe that whatever a person truly believes in and wants to try - as long as it isn't harmful, they should - even though I'm a nurse. Medical technology has come a long, long way. But I'm also a spiritual person, so I'm one of those that believe when it's your time to leave this earth - that's it. LOL

Yes, I use some home remedies. Many of them are just common sense based. One is to rinse your nose out with weak salt water to prevent reactions to weed pollen. It is now recommend by allergists. Another that I practice is to rub salve on my throat and wrap it up before I go to sleep if I have a scratchy feeling. By the next morning, I'm better.

Oh yeah.

I have an herb garden full of medicinal plants,... I use honey to soothe a sore throat, crushed ginger for nausea, and chicken soup for colds.

When I have a nasty chest cold I take a steaming hot bath with 2 cups of epsom salts. Soak in that until the water starts to cool, then dry off, wrap up, and go right to bed.
You sweat it out during the night, the junk in your chest breaks up, and you wake up feeling a LOT better.

Best way to prevent a respiratory infection is to wash your hands often, and use a neti pot with warm saline solution once a day.

Only one I can think of is a shot and a beer for a hangover cure.
