If you want to look for symbolism I suppose you could say that because Melchior is having to explain to him that his dreams are sexual in nature he could feel immasculated, therefore he's the one left with his socks squelched all the way down leaving you with a symbol of impodence or something immasculating. Or it could be because he's nervous about the feelings he's having and therefore a feeling of being somewhat impodent.

It could also be that the socks are just stretched out and they fell down because they do an awful lot of jumping around and stomping their feet dirung that song. Makes sense, no?

I never thought there was. I think it's just from the choreography, but I never thought of it before. Interesting question!
