Please don't rate people with thumbs down for giving me advice on bottle feeding as that is exactly what I have asked for!! I'm sure most of them would want to give advice on breastfeeding but I have specifically asked them not to!! Thank you

Im already bracing myself for a thumbs down from the "Breastfeeding Mafia"....

We chose SMA Gold when my daughter was born but it is very strong and made her constipated so all the doctors and health visitors we saw suggested Aptamil - I think it is the best as it is the closest to breastmilk (not my words - thats what it says on the box)...

Every baby is different. Both of mine did not do good at all on the Good Start products, but my niece did fine. I have heard great things on the parents choice(walmart brand) it is basically Enfamil. My daughter is on Nutramagin now but she is a Gerd baby and has soy and milk allergies. One other thing, the hospital will start your baby on the brand that they use, at my hospital it was similac which is good too. But if you want to save money for things litke diapers or college, you may want to speak with a pediatrician and give the parents choice a try from day one, another words if you want to try a certain formula make sure you take some with you to the hospital.

Good Luck!

I use/used farleys, I was told by the midwives that it was gentle, unlikely to cause any tummy upsets. It's slightly cheaper, which might sound bad, but all formulas have to conform to certain standards, such as organics etc so I wouldn't worry. You might find that baby needs something like C+G Comfort to ease digestion though so keep an open mind, and take your midwives and health visitors advice. Most hospitals and birthing centres have supplies of most brands of formula, but dont be tempted to try different ones in short spaces of time, because it can mess with their tummies. Our birthing centre was so lovely they gave us a 2 tubs to take home too :)

Tiny little mini-bomb about breastfeeding: babies get their most powerful natural immunity in the world from breastmilk if it is possible for any length of time...doesn't have to be long to help a lot?

Beyond that, I have always heard that every baby has their own tolerance to a certain brand, and the doc may say soy or iron fortified, etc...so if you are feathering your nest or getting questions about what you need, I wouldn't stockpile too much of one kind. Your baby will pick the one that suits her belly best. If the baby is already here, you can get instructions on the chemistry of the formula from her doc based on her checkups, and then choose the brand the baby likes best.

I'm sorry if this was useless.

i used sma gold to start then moved onto sma white for hungry baby's then I'm now onto sma progress and my son is a very healthy little boy, sorry but i do have to add i did breast feed for the first 3 months too. never in public i might add. i expressed if i was going out and always went into another room if anyone was in my house. even if you do it for one week this will give your baby the best start. but its totally up to yourself. also i recommend getting sma cartons which are pre made to start with as they are so much easier with a screaming baby especially at night feed. they were a life saver for me. good luck withe the little one x

We used the Parents Choice brand from Wal-Mart.

We didn't want to be cheap when it came to our baby's health, and asked our pediatrician before settling on a brand.

She said that there is lots of marketing hype with some brands bragging that they have higher levels of this and that vitamin etc., but when it comes down to it, the extras the baby doesn't need will just come out in their waste (in their diaper). All formula is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and must meet certain nutritional standards and requirements.

Check with your pediatrician. We fed two kids on the Parents Choice brand and they are healthy and smart and all that a proud parent wants to brag about :)

We first tried Similac, because that's what the hospital used and we had samples. Didn't like the way it dissolved (was very 'grainy'). Then we switched to Enfamil Lipil, which dissolved much better. My second son had medical issues so we ended trying several different brands. The Nestles Gentle Start dissolved better, but was thinner and caused my son to spit up more, so the best for us was still the Enfamil Lipil.

Check with your dr to see what is best for you and your baby.

Good luck and congrats!!

I found cow and Gate to be really good for my little one. I started her on Cow and Gate premium1, but as she had a slight problem with digestion, Cow and Gate Comfort was recommended. She is now 6 months and Comfort has been brilliant. It is slightly more expensive than most, and you need to use a teat on the bottle about number 2, as it is a thicker milk.

My OBs office recommends Nestle Good Start for when breastfeeding just doesn't work out. No judgement here...I've been on both sides myself - of having breastfeeding work well and go horribly. :)

I found Aptamil to be the best.

I didn't produce any milk when my son was born so had no choice. I found SMA Gold bunged him up but Aptamil was great. It is a little more expensive but worth it in my opinion.
