I have an ibook g4 that wont boot. It beachballed for awhile and after rebooting in single user mode it said?

i/o error and hung there. I rebooted after that and get the flashing icon folder. Help? I have no idea what to do. Any ideas what it could be?

Re-install the Mac operating system.

Still stuck, call Apple tech support.
