I feel like she hasn't been there long enough, not even a year, to really determine how much power she will have over the course of her career. She has potential but from what I've seen the whole Democratic Congress has been pretty reluctant and even too careful given that they were given a pretty strong mandate in 2006 to try to change things.

Robert Novak is a partisan with a long record of exaggerating strength and weakness as it suits him. While Rep Pelosi is a powerful individual, I doubt the comparisons to Rep Rayburn are fair (to her) or accurate.

I do not. I am a Dem and as far as I am concerned Pelosi has been at best marginal in her primary responsibility which was to end the war.
I know you need votes and I know the Dems do not have enough on their own but the speaker of the house is supposed to have enogh political skill to get some from the other side to her side. The year ong inability to do that does not seem to be indicitive of "power" to me.

a powerful leader of the house is supposed to be able to get things done. What has she got done besides hate messages, disinformation and no bills worth any thing.
As for Novak,no true conservative would dare
make a statement like that.
Diogenes.....You had a very good point...until your last remark....too bad.....thumbs down!

No, not at all. Rayburn was able to force congress to do something, Pelosi is not up to that ability. I wish she was, then maybe we could get Bush impeached.

Probably . . . because how she handles her position will determine the next President. If she can make the President look ineffective, bye bye Republicans.

No, what has she accomplished. my vote goes to Newt Gingrich of the recent speakers, but most powerful of all time was Tip O'neill.

LOL, her own Dems are thinking about kicking her out due to her lack of doing anything with the leadership role since she has been there.

No. She has done nothing noteworthy in her tenure as Speaker to warrant such lofty praise

No.
Pelosi is not a true leader. She has people fearful of her, but she garners no respect. Without respect, you have no power.
