The His Dark Materials Trilogy (mainly The Amber Spyglass) by Phillip Pullman. This is the most amazing series ever. The philosophy and scientific studies in it are so well-thought out. It affected me so much. Although many state it is anti-Christian, of which parts of it are, the references to religion in it are so educated. The characters are compelling, the pace is super fast, the plot is amazing, and I couldn't help but cry at the end of it.

-The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkine. Wow. These books affected me as well. My father read them to me when I was younger and spurred an obbession with the fantasy genre within me. I was so inspired by LotR, that I was inspired to write my own fantasy novel.

(I know you said only one, but these two series have both equalling important to me)

Every book I read is important, for some reason I try to find meaning in everything. But I would have to say the collection of short stories "Everything That Rises Must Converge" by Flannery O'Connor.

"The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force in the Universe" by Lynne McTaggart

You can't read it and have your view of the Universe, and your place within it, go unchanged. How did it change my outlook on life? It gave me hope.

I found it to be an amazing book.

Sidharta by Herman Hess. Oops, guess that might be considered religion. Or philosophy. But it opened my eyes somewhat about what's important in life.
