I went to the gynacologyst, recommended by my doctor because I have cervical polyps. The gynacologyst said that I don't need surgery because the polyps are shrinking and I am not having any more problems from them.I did have these before and removed and they were begnign. My question is IS IT TRUE THAT POLYPS ARE NOT CANCEROUS IF THEY SHRINK?

Most of the time cervical polyps are not cancerous (found this out from my doctor). I had a very small polyp in 1999 on the top of my cervix that did not shrink but it didn't get bigger either. I had to have it removed because of the fact that polyps can make periods irregular and I was having a lot of issues with bleeding at that time.

When my doctor found the polyp on my cervix she removed it right there in the office. She also had to take it to make sure it wasn't something more serious and it wasn't, thank goodness for that.

I would recommend getting another opinion and preferably from someone that does not share the same office of this doctor you saw to see what another doctor says.

Cervical polyps are usually benign (i.e. not cancer) and are very easily treated, often without the need of an operation. You'll need to have a scan done to ensure you don't have polyps inside your uterus as this could effect your fertility in that it could cause you to miscarry. The polyps on the cervix itself are unlikely to effect your fertility - think about it - if the blood can get out of your uterus during your period, then your cervix can't be so blocked that the sperm can't get in!!!
