I want to make my walk way even but don't want to hurt the tree what is a easy fix.

As long as the root is there,you will still have the same problem..Root systems can cause damage too PVC /Drain lines also...

There isn't an easy fix.

If the tree is large and has a good root system I doubt whether cutting a few of the roots will do it much lasting damage.

They will, however, grow back again and give you the same problem.

Either the tree goes or your path does.

if the walkway is of pavers or the like, easiest is to move it to another area where the roots arent' above ground.... if it's solid concrete, sorry, the first poster is right... if those roots are coming up, they'll continue to do so....
