Honey you may have a blighted ovum, so by the end of the next month your body will miscarry anyway. There is nothing you could do, and nothing you could have done. I have had one too, the baby just doesn't form, due to a fault in the egg, it is quite common and nothing can fix it or change it. The only reason a foetus stops growing is when it isn't alive or there is just an empty sac. Maybe you need to go back to the Doctor for a quantitive Hcg blood test and check you levels over a few days. If they are low or going down then it is bad news. If they are going up then maybe you were wrong with your dates.
sorry for the bad news, I have been there at Christmas 2005.

It sounds as though you could have got your dates wrong? If the Drs think you are only 5 weeks then they will be able to see very little on the scan, too little to confirm you are pregnant, and that is why they are asking you to come back after a month. By this time the heartbeat will be visible and they can confirm you are indeed expecting.

If you are correct and you are 8 weeks pregnant and they couldn't find a heartbeat, then it would seem you may have miscarried. However this would be surprising as if it was the case the Drs wouldn't be asking you to come back in a month to confirm the pregnancy.

It really does sound as if you have calculated your dates wrong. Just hang in there for a few weeks till your next scan.

Was there a yolk sac and fetal pole?

The reason I ask is b/c if there was just an empty sac, it could be a blighted ovum... or, your dates are just a bit off. I don't like that your doctor is requiring you to wait a whole month for confirmation, that's just not fair to you. You need a second opinion in LESS than a month, perhaps a week. Were bloodtests done to check your hcg levels?

I wish you all the best, I'm so sorry that you are going through this uncertainty.

I should mention that I had a blighted ovum back in 2/98. I was 10 weeks along, however, my ultrasound showed a 5 week sac.

your dates might be out and if you have an irregular period that can put it out as well. When I went in for my first ultrasound I thought I was 12 weeks but I was only 11 weeks, I know that it is not as big a difference as you have but it could be something like that for you. If you are pregnant and what they are saying is true then it might be OK but they don't stop growing either but at this stage all you can do is what the Doc said is sit and wait a bit longer. Good luck

It could be that your dates are different from what you thought, and that you aren't as far along as you thought you were. The reason they do the scan is to determine the dates, which is why they have given you the estimate of 5 weeks. But i am no doctor, and I would say that if you are unsure, or worried, or want to have a scan sooner, call your doctor or midwife. It seems like they didn't explain things too well, or maybe you were too shocked to take things in. Go to the doctors and ask them to explain, hun. Dont wait a month, you will be worrying yourself sick, which is not good for baba

I am 34 weeks and 1 day. My original due date was November 28th but when I went they said the baby was 7 weeks not 9. So they changed it to December 13th. Only now I'm right where I should be if I was 37 weeks. So sometimes they just get the due date wrong. I don't think anything is wrong with the baby they may have just calculated wrong.
Hope that helps! And good luck!

don't panic it could be a lot of things. the first doc told my sister in law with her first she was due in August 16 but the second one the one who delivered her at the hospital (on July 16) said she was full term... so maybe its just a small baby... they were off 4 weeks with my sister in laws it could happen so stay positive :~)

Cheers and congrats!!!!
