To whom are we grateful? Doesn't gratitude have to have a target? Can't be grateful to a toss of the dice can we?

In terms of life experiences..i am grateful for all the trials,risks,mistakes,challenges,adversity and troubles that I've encountered along the way.because of these, i have become wiser,shrewd,smart,compassionate,appreciative,level-headed and strong person.
