Well I think they are a great asset to a mans body especially if you lick them or have somebody else lick them they can be just like a females breast they have nerves on and around each nipple so why wouldn't men have them? I think they are great for me they feel very good when my partner licks and sucks on them :) :)

When you think about putting babies together from scratch, starting with a fertilized egg, it's a lot easier if the two different models (M and F) share as much of the same basic plan as possible. Women need nipples for nursing. It would take a lot of extra genes and developmental mechanism to make them go away in men - and they're not hurting anything. (Men and women are so much alike that, with hormone treatments, some men can lactate. Hormones turn the feature on or off.)
The only genetic difference between men and women is on the Y chromosome, and it has very few genes. There's not a lot of room there to spell out big, complicated differences between men and women. They have to be relatively small differences, and have to be the ones that are truly necessary for reproduction.

All mammals, male and female, have nipples. You also have milk glands, just not as developed as in females. Guys may also lactate a bit at birth or shortly thereafter, due to hormones from the mother. During teen years guys may notice a crusty substance on the nipple, which is dried milk that oozes out due to hormonal changes in the body. Some teen guys can even produce a few drops of milk or more for a short while. Adult males may also lactate a bit when their wife is lactating and feeding the baby,, just a normal hormonal response.

Nick, at a very early stage in our development, while we're still floating around in our mother's womb, we all have all the same parts for both sexes, male and female. At a certain stage in that development, we become either a male or a female, and the genitalia changes accordingly. The nipples are there in case the embryo becomes a female. This is a very simplistic explanation. Talk to a biology teacher for a more detailed explanation.
But I like Steve O's answer a lot. :-)

In Medical class one day the same question was put to the professor who then had a clever answer:
Nipples are formed before the sex organs on a fetus, so that they are guarantied to be there if the fetus turns out to be female.
