So today I was playing the piano, and then a random spider suddenly popped up from no where... So i ran for my life trying to find the spray... I think it was some sort of fly spray but it didn't just kill flys... It took me 5 minutes to find it and by the time i got back the spider was gone... I told my friend that, and she believes that the spider could be poisonous. The spider was black with 2 white stripes? It was about 3 cm in length. Anyway i sprayed the back of my piano, but I'm really scared, knowing that there may be a poisonous spider in my house! Anyway I'm from New Zealand, can spiders here kill you?

I got conflicting information from a few sites. One said that no native New Zealand spiders are poisonous and another said the white-tailed spider is suspected of causing death, but with no confirmed cases listed. I listed the sites for you to check out. If I find more I'll post them.

I hate spiders btw. Just looking at the creepy little buggers is making my skin crawl. I can imagine what looking at one of these monsters face to face did to you. Good luck getting the sucker.

New Zealand has no harmful animals like poisonous snakes, scorpions or venomous insects, so its sole poisonous native spider – the rare katipō – has almost mythical status. Since the late 19th century there have been accidental introductions of the poisonous redback and white-tailed spiders from Australia.

Well....if you sure that was a poisonous spider...the wisest choice is not to touch it.

Also....a black color with 2 white strips...as long as i know, it's not Red Jockey, probably not a tarantula (despite of its size...man...3 cm is huge for a spider), and not Black Widow either.

Probably it was Wolf Spider (you can recognize it by the way it capture its prey, wolf spider didn't spin thread, they hunt by jump right at its prey). They aren't harmful but if you get bitten, it feels painful.

BUt i'm not really sure since i'm not an expert in identifying Arachnids....

all spiders do if they bite you they sharp snappers they bite you head off they sharp joke tellers lol seriousley through i think you need to squash it when you see it maybe lay down a trap like a mousetrap or a net like you would in the jungle. my mom hates spiders and so does my cousin who is the worst cuz shes the youngest . but i think many ppl hate them not just cuz they posion and are ugly. some are ancrophobias some just do not like them some are scared of them. some hate them some loathe them. it depends. not many ppl like them . if its got 8 legs and you sure its a spider be on you guard to bugzap it again thts all u can do for now in the meantime go to sleep with you 1 eye open lol

When in doubt, assume that the spider is venomous. DO NOT touch it.

If you remember the look of the spider, go to spiders website to look for it for real check.

Does it really matter? If you're going to kill it on sight anyway, who cares if it's actually dangerous, right?
