I think Maxx P nailed it but I'll add anyway. American TV is watched all over the world, that is who produces the "WORLD" wide news, it shouldn't shock us that the US stations are covering US news more.

If at all one US celebrity got hung up in the Mexican flood, Oh, it would have been flooding news in all the television channels!

Not just that alone, while making the Calif fire as sensational presentation, they ignore in the most inhuman way the tragic floods and the sufferings of millions in the same continental America and so also many more things around the world!

We see here in India, that the CNN and the BBC highlight on the Indian movie stars private life in a big way while they underplay the human rights violations, in all the events around us!

Of course, "we" are overburdened with stories about starving Africans, fighting Muslims, flooded Central Americans, rebellious Asians, etc. "We" being the readers of papers and watchers of news programmes. They need constantly to find new, different shocks and horrors - a bit like the old Roman circuses where the "entertainment" got more and more ferocious and disgusting as the crowds got more and more bored.

To me the real celebrities are the unsung heroes who drive supplies into these weather and war torn areas every day, every week and every year and just go on trying to heal the problem even though it appears insuperable. And the people who struggle on ignored like the sunami victims still waiting to be housed in Sri Lanka and Thailand

because it doesnt make good TV - Fires engulfing hollywood, people saying oh it looks like a movie! that is good TV. Celebs worrying about their homes!
Poor families having their lives possesions washed away does not make good TV!
In Mexico they will prob set up refuges for familis who are left with nothing, to feed them, clothe them etc.
In california they set up centres so people could claim on their insurance!

Because the truth is that Mexico has pissed of Americans and those that pay the taxes don't give a sh*t about Mexicans one way or the other. All the money sent back to Mexico by illegals in this country is sufficient to address what needs doing.Giving them 'aid' is just plain stupid and irresponsible and I think we have done more than can be reasonably expected.
I don't see them lowering the price of their oil in order to "help" us...I say let 'em drown.

The majority of news outlets are American.

The majority of their viewers are Americans

People have a tendency to care more about their neighbors then they do others.

You need to stop trying to see racism or celebrity worship under every rock.

For the same reason the rich white people of California received help much quicker than poor black people in New Orleans.
