the task bar at the bottom of my screen has gone funny it has lenghtened and the icons are in two's and on top of one another can you please tell me how to revert it back to normal. I have tried but dont know how to do it, thick aint I.

You should just be able to resize it, like you would with a normal window (hold your mouse over the top edge of the task bar untill your cursor changed into two vertical arrows, then click (and Hold) and drag down. However make sure it isn't locked by right clicking anywhere in the task bar and ensuring "lock the taskbar" is not ticked.

F12 did not work for me.

Shortening the Task Bar is sometimes awkward. What I do is lengthen the task bar on the right of the 'Start' button, the double ':' so all the icons in the bar are showin on top, (don't worry if there are two rows of icons in the 'Launch Bar at the extreme right), then I place my mouse over the top of the bar until it shows a double arrow pointing up and down. I gently pull it down and this should return you Task Bar to its original state.

If you pull it too far down it may disappear. If so gently push your mouse up again and it should return.
