Word count in Lord of the Rings?

Does anybody know how many words are in the LOTR trilogy?
If anybody has the e-book version, would you do the word count for me? Thanks!

you could do it the old fashioned way - count #words on three pages and average them, multiply by total number of pages to get an estimate. The only point of word count is for those darn 500 worders they have you write in high school, then you check after every sentence.

When my brother gets online and sees this question, I bet he counts them! He is a LOTR walking encyclopedia.
