Well it is mostly a stereotype; I must admit that there is some truth to that myth. For some reason and I can't tell you what that reason is, people of African and Hispanic descents seem to have more rhythm. I don't think that it has anything to do with any physiological difference in our genes but instead with culture. For example, Spanish music usually has a more defined beat and requires a lot of movement. It's not structured; each person is free to dance it in a multiple of different ways. Other types of music that are of European descent are more structured dances, that don't allow you to deviate much from the set footsteps.
If anything I think this is the difference for example with European and Spanish music; Spanish music doesn’t have the set structure. When anyone that hasn't grown up with lets say...salsa learns it in a classroom setting, they learn the basic "structured" steps which make it very obvious that they don't have a more natural movement to their step. This makes it seem like they can’t dance. I definitely think this is a stereotype and has no real racial bases. Some people just naturally have more rhythm then others and your skin color has nothing to do with your ability to dance.
My girlfriend for example is white and she is an incredible dancer; she actually teaches dance. If you grow up with music and dancing then it becomes second nature to you. I think some people are just so scared of looking foolish that they don’t allow themselves to move in the way their bodies really want to move. The more confidence comes through no matter what you do and it definitely shows in dancing.

Everyone should dance! Just because it may not be rythmic or as flowing as others doesnt mean that you can not dance. Dancing is a wonderful form of expression for everyone to enjoy in your own way! Forget what others think and just let your body move the way it wants to!
P.S I love so you think you can dance. I want to go to the tour, but I dont want to pay over $100 to go =( My fav is the season 3 Lacey & Kameron -Dance, its so beautiful and powerful

This is just racism. How can you possibly say that someone cant dance because of their skin colour its just the same as say black people cant add up I am sure i will get abuse for that comment because someone will decide to take in isolation because they are too stupid or to bigoted to understand the context

You are right. It's a fair generalization. The average white person appears to be rhythmically inferior to blacks, just as the average black person appears to be intellectually inferior to whites (note the low number of significant black inventions).
To answer your second question - racism is still going on because deep down everyone knows that to generalize is a good, natural, human instinct - whether it's based off of gender, age, race or whatever. To thoroughly get to know every individual in any situation is not realistic. There fore, generalizing is required. People who pretend not to notice correlations in race mean well, but they are not thinking. Instead, they are just repeating what they've been taught others want to hear from them.

Why do Kenya's athletes excel in long distance running?
Along with Ethiopians.
Why do few if any African athletes excel in swimming?
I can't say why it is....but when you compare white and black in dancing.....the whiter shade pales in comparison

Unfortunately it's just racial stereotypes. Even more so unfortunately people are allowed to make fun of whites on TV and in public, but everyone else obtains the right to not get made fun of, and not get in trouble for doing it. I don't know. Welcome to America. =/
Hannah... You're a moron. Like I said, welcome to America. We're just infested with idiots like that who seem to think skin color defines ones abilities. People like that are the true racists in this country.
