In the Military? I believe that if we had a law stating before you could run for State Rep, Congress, Senate, President, Vice President,Govener, and even Judges, we would have a group of people that had a better understanding of what it takes to keep a strong Military, we would get rid of the rich Professional Polititions, We would have a group of people that were more apt to put their Country before their own personal intrest. I also think that we would get a group of people that understood the real life in America. Right now all we have serving us in Government are rich people that are far away from the real problems of America and they have no clear understanding of how to solve the issues because they don't live the average life of an American. Right now we have a group of rich people that think if they throw money at a problem it will take care of it. The problem is they always use the working person's money to throw around, while they keep themselves protected. We need real people

I think so. If a world leader is going to place their own country in war then he/she should have a clear understanding of how the military operates other then watching movies and reading Beetle Bailey comics.
He/she should know about the sacrifices that men and women are going to have to go through because of a call he/she made.

According to the Board of Governors, the Federal Reserve is independent within government because "its decisions do not have to be ratified by the President or anyone else in the executive or legislative branch of government." However, its authority is derived from the U.S. Congress and is subject to congressional oversight. Additionally, the members of the Board of Governors, including its chairman and vice-chairman, are chosen by the President and confirmed by Congress. The government also exercises some control over the Federal Reserve by appointing and setting the salaries of the system's highest-level employees. Thus the Federal Reserve has both private and public aspects.[11] The U.S. Government receives all of the system's annual profits, after a statutory dividend of 6% on member banks' capital investment is paid, and an account surplus is maintained.

1-there is no evidence that ex military politicians are any more or less competent or moral than those who didnt serve
2-america's democracy would be subservient to the military which is not neccesarily in the public's best interests
3-many of our current public servants and politicians are already ex military and they still tend to be rich people
4-the real need for change is to sever the connection that corporate america has with elected officials and the military. the vast bankrolls of the corporations result in officials who get into office just as much because of corporate backing as votes and end up trying to serve the interests of both the public and the corporations which always fails. the same kind of coruption is rampant in the military because the generals in aquisitions tend to make decisions that support certian corporations, then they end up working for those same favored companies at cushy jobs when they leave the military (favortism)

I disagree. We are not a country with a military leadership, our government was designed to be run by civilians. Military experience may be helpful but we don't want someone to be president who has more loyalty to the military than to the government.

Person running is not the problem. Qualifications of the people doing the electing is the problem. You can bet that the founding fathers never intended voting rights be given to all the unqualified people that currently have them. You should at least be smarter than the machine that records your vote.

I don't think a law would work. The courts would be tied up for years with lawsuits and challenges. It might have to be a Constitutional amendment. But I could go for it if there was a grassroots movement to elect only veterans. I don't care which party they belong to.

I have always said "Vote for the Veteran" and "Vote against the incumbent.

When I was 18, I tried to go into the Navy and they turned me down because I had rheumatic fever when I was 9 years old.

So does that mean, under your proposal, that I can't run for office ?

I like your idea, because those who serve in the military typically have better judgement, more dedication, and are just better people than anyone in Washington now.

However, there are people without military experience that are good folks, too.

The problem is that politicians use OUR money to lie to us, just to get themselves re-elected. (the welfare state and all the socialist handouts.)

The single largest enemy of our nation: TAXES. if we could cut off the ridiculous amount of taxes that we all pay, being a politician would lose it's luster to the greedy pigs that are in there now. (both parties, mind you)

here are a list of types of taxes that did not exist 100 years ago:

I like your thinking, but I don't think we should make it a law. We as voters should give it allot of weight when we chose.

Unfortunately, money is what gets people elected. That would be extremely difficult to change.

Military service is not required for someone to serve in public office because it is not necessary and is not provided for in the laws.

That would make too much sense.
Amend the constitution and make politics make sense.
