I had got 3 Swordtail fish afew weeks ago. Two of them are going just fine. The other, in time has went down hill. This fish has lost weight, you can tell it is sick, it kinda looks like a skeloton. The spine is curved, the fins are bunched together. When this fish swims it is more like floping in the water then hangs around the top of the tank. I really thought the fish would have died by now but it is still alive. Do you think it may infect my other fish? Like i said it has been in the tank for at least 3 weeks now and none of my other fish seem to be sick. If you have any ideas on what is wrong with this fish please help.

It would be best to move it, but depending on the cause, it may already be too late to prevent the other fish from being infected.

Causes for a curved spine can vary from congenital defect (born with it, which clearly isn't your problem), nutritional deficiency (which should affect all equally, unless the fish in question has a problem with absorbing specific nutrients, but this should show up early in it's life). There's also Pleistophora (also called "neon tetra disease", but fish other than neons can get it), fish tuberculosis (which can be transmitted to humans), and camallanus (an internal parasite, which you can sometimes see sticking out the anus of the fish when they are at rest in the water - see photos: http://www.gaem.it/pubblico/articoli/malattiepesci/camallanus/camallanus03.jpg , http://www.alaquairum.net/imagenes/Camallanus1.jpg - the smoothness and pointed tip will distinguish this from "poop".

I'll put some links below where you can get info on these and treatments (if any):

2 possibilities. First, It may be an infection. Second, it may be inborn.

It may have a bone infection. Get it to the vet to check it out.
