Generally, it is anxiety and they just want to talk.....that is what Yahoo answers is for.......and normally the doctors offices are not open at this time of night........
So why are you asking questions such as that....or looking in Pregnancy to know how many women ask these questions?

First off, why is a MAN asking a question about a woman's motives? What do you know about any of it? My guess is, very little.
Second, some women don't have time to go to the docs right away. In some cases, the docs are so booked up, it takes weeks to get in to see one. In other cases, some women may be afraid to do something to harm the child and want to know what being pregnant feels like so they can be careful while they wait for the docs to get around to seeing them.
YES, I know that there are other options they could take, but YOU nor I know what situation these women are in. However, at least I know what it's like to be in that position so I do have SOME idea of the motives that might drive someone to ask here instead of getting confirmation from a doc first. Before you go shooting off your mouth about women and trying to insinuate that they aren't using wisdom in the choices they make, why not try using YOUR brain and consider all options first?
ALSO, did you ever consider if they were just curious and decided on the spur of the moment to ask just to see if their suspicions were true? My theory is you didn't consider that either, but you have the audacity to ridicule the intelligence of others without showing any of it yourself.
Get a clue.
PS: This isn't a slam against all men, btw. There are many understanding and intelligent men out there. All of what I wrote is just for you, buddy. Just you.
PSS: Btw, that's real mature of you, dude, to send me a secret email indicating that you think I should commit suicide. What's wrong? Upset that you ended up looking like a fool? Sorry, but not my fault you put your foot in your mouth. What are you? 10? Grow up and learn to take criticism if you're so quick to hand it out. As you can see, I'm not upset by your childish tactics at all, but I did think others should see how juvenile you are behaving just because a 'woman' didn't take your insult lying down. Glad you're not my man. I'd hate to have to deal with such childish behavior on a daily basis.

You are taking for granted that the ones asking are seriously posing the question. Stay on here only a brief time and you see patterns in the asking of "serious" questions; many are seemingly done by fools, which unfortunately makes trying to answer legit questions impossible.

I'm guessing they are either trying to save a visit to the doctor's, because of money, inconvenience, etc. OR they will go to the doctor but they are just dying to know and hoping that somehow Y!A will give the definitive answer.

I'm guessing that it's a girls way of sharing some possibly exciting news, when they have no one else to talk to or tell. But I agree with you, it is a bit weird. They should just either watch for the period... or buy an EPT

Ever wonder a married woman will surely ask their doctor.
Ever wonder who were out there asking without the folks back home knowing on what went wrong out there?

Dude,
Women think differently than men. For one thing, they like to reach consensus opinion about everything.
Don't hassle them about it. You can imagine how important those questions are to them. Yes, women seem illogical but they are doing what seems natural in their world.

Why not ask to try and put their minds at possible ease while waiting to get into the Dr. It's not hurting anyone.

You're not gonna get it, but ...
Doctors don't chat, and they are not available "whenever", and firsttimers need to get reality checks in the safety of their home, etc.

Cuz that's women for ya. We stress about stuff incessantly, especially women who want to say oops, what now...
I'm just glad I'm not the only one annoyed by it.
