Harry Potter is the baby who was not killed by he who must not be named. He also shares some of the powers of he who must not be named (yeah Voldemort) which transferred to Harry when he tried to kill him as a baby...speaking Parselmouth for example.

Harry Potter is so special because he is the only who saved from the Lord Voldermort. The harry potter movies showed how Lord Voldermort wants to come back into life and killed Harry. The movies also showed the story line of Harry Potter become famous wizards and want to defeated Lord Voldermort.

I have watched all of the films, and I don't have a clue why they are awed by this boy who has lied, cheated, stolen, spied and broken rules wherever and whenever he wants then is forgiven for it.
I don't see why he is admired or why others think he is special. If this were a fan-written story, I'd call him Mary Sue for want of the male equivalent.
Someone says that he has some sort of vast knowledge. I suppose they don't choose to show that in the movies for some reason. Why don't the films show us why he's special? Throughout them, he has been particularly inept, acting more like a villainous character than a good one.
My understanding from the film is that he received the scar but escaped death only because his mother intervened. So, I still don't see why he is special.
If you have to read the books to "get it", have we wasted time watching the films? This really confuses me. Perhaps someday I'll read the books though the excerpts I've seen haven't impressed me with writing style.

While, Harry's uniqueness is that he is the only one to survive the Avada Kedavra curse and thus destroy Voldemort, I think people love Harry for reasons beyond that. He is brave and loyal, good-hearted and just. Like the goblin says he is a very "odd" wizard, because he gives other creatures as goblins and elves and centaurs and giants equal importance.

Umm, I guess cause he's the Chosen One and plus he defeated Voldemort (you need to read the books to know what I'm talking about). But I guess that cause the writer did a great job in capturing people's minds and making her stories special and stuff so thats why he is too ! Aurghh... whatever thats confusing. Hope this helps tho =D

yeah you get a better understanding of harry's famousness from the books coz it gives a better background on the whole situation.. its not coz of the person he is grown-up. its do with what harry did when he was just an infant. which was he defeated the oh-so-scary-and-powerful lord voldy. the public of course don't know how a baby could cause such a miracle, so they look at him as a source of hope almost.
