If i have a kid they are going to have to get a job once they turn 16, It teaches responsibility. Im not saying they have to go work 40 hours a week in a factory, but spending 20 hours or less after school and on weekends would make them appreciate things. Also realize money doesn't grow on trees and how hard it is to buy things you want on a budget.
I had my first job when i was 16 and made pretty good money and pretty much put every dime i made into my truck, then wanted to go do things with friends and didn't have money, it taught me lesson about money better than my dad could have just lectured me about.

I think it really depends on the student. I know that when I was in high school I really had no time for a part time job. Some kids simply need them in order to get by however because it helps being extra income into the family. I suppose you could say that having a job teaches young kids critical thinking skills, the value of hard work, and how to manage finances. Still, I think that at this time in life your profession is student, and that learning should come first and a job second.

Do you ever have any contact with your so called legal guardians NOW are at some times in your past and where has your mail been going to such as your W-2 forms from your past years of employment for this purpose and time in your life. That would or should be a good place for you to get started on the right track in your life and take charge of your own income tax reporting requirements since you are a 29 year old full time college student with a part time job. Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 02/24/2012

A part time job depends on number of factors such as:

The age of the student

The real economic need

The ability for time management

The nature of the job

Number of hours worked.

How well the student is doing in school

The type of job

Transportation to and from the job

Relationship of job to future career

Other activities besides school and job

There are various school programs that provide for internships and on the job training. Some schools supervise the student on the job.

I think it depends on how many hours you would actually be working if it is part time, and what type of job it is.

If you are a high school student I would only recommend working on weekends. If you are a college student you may be able to pull off a few week days plus weekends, but it will take some serious organization in order to keep up with work that you are given in your classes.

If the student has good grades and is responsible the part time job will be good. The student who is careless and who has no desire to do well in school will us a part time job as another excuse. It's all about time management. Many over achieving students manages part time jobs, belong to organizations and even volunteer work yet get good grades. My daughter works part time and she gets good grades and is involved in other thongs outside of school. It's all in motivation and convictions. Obviously the track record is the students grades while involved in other committments.

Part time jobs are really good for students and depends upon their career objective and selection if they get a job in their relevant area of specialization then that would b great and after finishing their education they have experience in their profile, which gives weightage in the selection procedure for further jobs and future prospects. But students need to do proper planning and take necessary steps accordingly.

Only in the summer. You'll have plenty of time for a job/career when you are an adult. Right now you should be taking advantage of the many school activities offered to you. If you have a specific career in mind, then seek a volunteer position in the field so you can learn about the career and if it is something you might really want to pursue. Develop your interests and abilities now, work for money later. Trust me, your youth will pass by very quickly and then a job will be necessary.
