You need to fill the back of the tank up with more water so you can flush it. You'll have to do that every time you flush until you get the water line fixed.

Just fill the bowl with water, then use a plunger to flush the water through. I think you have worse problems then an unflushable toilet if your water main is broken. Better call a plumber.
Wait...are you saying that the toilet is broken or there is no running water? If there is no running water but the toilet isn't broken just fill the reservoir with water from a neighbor.

It is true take a large bucket of water and pour it into the bowl at a moderate pace. It will fill the bowl up and cause the flushing as if you were to pour water into the tank. You might also find that it put a little extra power into it.

If you have access to any water you can take a bucket and pour it directly into the toilet bowl and it will flush.

You can always get water from somewhere else (store, pond, stream, friend on a different water main network) and add it to the tank on the back of the toilet to make it flush.

I believe all you need to do is grab a bucket, fill it with water, and dump it into the toilet at a moderate speed and the toilet will eventually flush

there should be enuff water in the tank to do that first flush....
then, for the next one, you'll have to find a bucket and fill it up ... look for a pond or swimming pool type thing.... go out to the water main that busted and fill 'er up there!....

i don't think you can do it unless you can find some water somewhere and pour it either down the toilet all at once or fill up the tank again and flush.

Fill the back tank by bucket, cup, bowl, whatever, and then flush when full. Use any liquid you have in the house, bottled water, soda, urine, whatever.
