well if you wear your cotton underwear at a swimming pool, it isnt exactly the healthiest thing because the materials used to make undies collect bacteria when soaking in plain water. IF you do wear underwear at the beach made of "Safe" materials, then it would look alot like a swimming suit and nobody will notice. and if you wear a swimming suit while walking around at the mall.. now that inappropriate.

Are we talking indoor our outdoor? I see your point and have always wondered the same thing. The thing about bathing suits though is that they are much thicker to hide more underneath.
At home though all my friends know they better call ahead first because my apartment is clothing optional and there's no telling how they'll find me if they don't call.

Another example of a 'fashion conspiracy'.
Like what colours are in this year, or the height of the waist on trousers this season, or the length of the strap on ladies handbags.
The fashion industry has a lot to answer for.

It's the same for men.
I have boxers that cover me more than a bathing suit and they have better designs, too.
If I wear underwear under the boxers they are just shorts, right? Nope still underwear....

Bathers are designed not to be see through, especially when wet - while some underwear is actually designed to be see through and other is, although not by design.
