March 2 1962 On March 2 1962 Wilt Chamberlain and the Philadelphia Warriors were playing the New York Knicks in Hershey, Pennsylvania in a game that meant so little that there wasn't a single camera at the game.
At the end of the 3rd quarter Wilt had 69 points and destiny was in the making with the previous scoring record at a mere 78 points set by Wilt earlier in the year.
Then it happened, with 46 seconds left in the game Wilt Chamberlain converted a lay-up for the NBA's first 100 point game by a single player.
Fans rushed onto the court and the game was ended at that point, with 42 seconds still left.
As we mention, there were no cameras at the game so no footage exists, but the picture below was taken in the locker room following the game and sent out over the wire.
Just in case you're wondering the Philadelphia Warriors won the game 169 - 147
