Okay, so the apple mac mini is a hard drive right? With most new macs having the hard drive built into the system, what monitors is this compatible with? Any?

No, the Mac mini is not only a hard drive. It's a computer which typically means a main board, hard drive and DVD/CD drive. It is very small so it looks a bit like a hard drive. It's about the size of a stack of seven CDs in their plastic cases. When I worked as a computer technician, some of my customers called their computer a hard drive. You can appreciate the difference if you say "I put my DVD in the hard drive." DVD drive and hard drive are two different critters and both are part of a typical computer.

The Mini has a DVI connector for monitor plus it comes with a DVI to VGA adapter. Most high priced new monitors nowadays have DVI connector so any of them will work with the Mini. Most cheaper minitors have the old style VGA connector so they will work also.

Consider the fact that if you want to buy the AppleCare Protection plan for your Mini, the plan will also cover one Apple display (display means monitor) that you buy at the same time as the Mini.

Mac Mini works best with a monitor that uses DVI input, or alternatively, a HDTV with DVI or HDMI input. I would avoid Samsung monitors (apparently, they don't like Apple computers at all), but most anything else should work like a charm.

if your Mac Mini is a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo and you really want to show off in front of your friends, get a HDTV that's capable of 1080p or a computer monitor that's capable of 1920x1200, and download some 1080p movie trailers from apple.com/trailers.
