For example 9x+10=7x-6 do i
9x+7x=-6+10 or
9x-7x=-6-10?

I don't know when to subtract or add

Please help

9x+10=7x-6
move 7x to the other side, as you can see, 7x is positive, so when you move to the other side, positive 7x becomes negative 7x,
9x-7x+10=-6
move positive 10 to the other side, so positive 10 becomes a negative 10
9x-7x=-6-10
subtraction..... 2x=-16.. and then solve for X, -16/2=-8
so X=-8.. Hope this helps!!

here is what u do. 9x +10 = 7x -6, the term 7x is on the right side of equality sign and it is positive. if u want to bring it to the left side of equality sign, you change the sign of the term.

9x + 10 -7x = -6
now 10 is on the left side and you want to bring it to the right. so 9x - 7x = -6 - 10

Writing them out in the complete form helps:
9x+10=7x-6
we want all "x" terms on the left, we have to "zero out" the "x" term on the right
9x+10-7x=7x-6-7x
re-arrange and add parenthesis for clarity
(9x-7x)+10=(7x-7x)-6
simplify
2x+10=-6
we want the number terms on the right, we want a zero on the left
2x+10-10=-6-10
parenthesis for clarity
2x+(10-10)=(-6-10)
simplify
2x=-16
solve for x
(2x)/2=(-16)/2
simplify
x = -8

9x - 7x = - 6 - 10
2x = -16
x = -8
Leave the 9x where it is, subtract 7x from both sides.
Leave the -6 where it is, subtract 10 from both sides.
Just remember that when you "move things around" what you're actually doing is subtracting it from/adding it to both sides.

WHEN you want to bring the numbers from the r.h.s to l.h.s you must change its sign

let me show you

9x+10=7x-6
9x+10-7x=-6
9x-7x+10=-6
2x+10=-6
2x=-6-10
2x=-16
x=-16/2
x=-8

i hope this may help you.i wish you BEST OF LUCK

First step -- isolate between the variables. for that reason, upload 3/y to the two aspects of the decrease equation. This leaves you with that equation interpreting one million/x = 3/2 + 3/y. Invert the two aspects, leaving x = one million/(3/2 + 3/y). Plug this fee for x into the suitable equation, which then will become 4/(one million/(3/2 + 3/y)) + one million/y = 5/3. yet one million/(one million/(3/2 + 3/y)) = 3/2 + 3/y, so multiplying this by potential of four supplies 12/2 + 12/y + one million/y = 5/3. putting all the y's on one facet and all the numbers on the different supplies 12/y + one million/y = 5/3 - 12/2. including those supplies thirteen/y = (-6+5/3) = -18/3 + 5/3 = -thirteen/3. subsequently y = -3. Plugging this fee for y into the suitable equation yields 4/x + one million/(-3) = 5/3 including one million/3 to the two aspects yields 4/x = 5/3 + one million/3 . or 6/3, or 2. considering the fact that 4/x = 2, x could equivalent 2. Checking, utilising the two values, 4/2 + one million/(-3) = 5/3, and a pair of - one million/3 = 5/3 one million/2 -(3/-3) = 3/2, and one million/2 + one million = 2.

it's simple
any number which cross the bridged "=" changes sign , e.g from + to - or vice verse.

so for your question, the second option is correct....
9x-7x=-6-10
2x=-16
x=-8

have a nice day...you are a good mathematician, so keep it up

The second option. When a number "crosses" the equal (=) sign, it changes to the "other" side. So a negative becomes positive and a positive would become a negative.

Kind of like Star Wars where a number can go "to the dark side". (If a number is moving from a positive to a negative).

Let's say LHS = RHS (left hand side and right side)

If you bring a number or algebraic from one side to another side,
you must change its condition from positive to negative and vice versa.

For example:
3x + 6y = 7y - 5x

Then, 3x + 5x = 7y - 6y
Now , u can start the subtracts of adds.
