The greek symbol π (pi) is used to represent the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle.
Its value is approximately 3.14159265... but it is an irrational number that cannot be represented as a decimal.

The greek symbol φ (phi) is used to represent the golden ratio of (1+√5)/2.
Its value is approximately 1.61803399... but it too is an irrational number.

The difference is approximately 1.52355866... :-)

Both Phi and Pi are mathematical constants, both are irrational, both represent ratios and both use a Greek letter. But that is where the similarity ends: Phi is the golden ratio equal to (1 + √5) / 2 Its decimal approximation starts 1.61803... Phi (φ) is the 21st letter of the Greek alphabet and was chosen to represent the Golden Ratio after Phidias, a sculptor who is said to have employed it in the statues of the Parthenon. Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Its decimal approximation starts 3.14159... Pi (π) is the 16th letter of the Greek alphabet and was chosen from the first letter of the Greek word for perimeter ("περίμετρος") They are not the same thing other than their Greek letters sound similar.
