Gold is only slightly heavier than lead, not twice as heavy.

Lead has a greater atomic weight, but gold is denser and thus a cube of gold is heavier than a cube of lead the same size.
Gold has an atomic weight of 197 and a density of 19.3
Lead has an atomic weight of 207 and a density of 11.3

No, but a piece of gold is heavier than the same size piece of lead.

Gold & lead are quite close to each other on the Periodic Table, however, gold with a density of 19.3 g/cm^3 & lead with a density of about 11.34 g/cm^3
