Well, since it is a percentage, you take "19%" and convert it into a decimal: ".19" Then you just divide 7 by .19 and get 36.84. The number is not what you would expect because you are dividing a whole number, 7, by ".19" that means that ".19" goes into "7" a total of 36.84 times.
Check it on your calculator, 36.84 times ".19" comes out to 6.996, which is essentially 7 because we rounded 36.84 off. Hope this helps!

so 7 / 0.19 = 36.842105263157894736842105263158. . .
Whenever you divide by a number between 0 and 1, you will get an number bigger than what you're dividing.
I'm not sure what I expected, but I wasn't shocked whatsoever by the answer.

when you're dividing by a percent, you're dividing by a decimal so it's going to be higher than 7...
7/.19 = 36.8 or so. If you're wanting to know what 19 percent of 7 is, you need to multiply because the word "of" in math actually means "multiply".

What am I supposed to be surprised by? You *divided* by a number smaller than 100%, so it is bigger than the original number... a little more than 5 times as big.
Or the fact that it is such a long repeating decimal? That is kind of interesting.

either 36.842 if you mean 19% as 0.19, or 5.263 if you mean 7 divided by 19% of 7, which is 1.33
