Ernie Allen, head of the US-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, has repeatedly told the McCanns that their campaign could be the key to finding her and he believes she may be alive (statistics show very young children are less likely to be murdered). Nobody will care more than them - they are the primary activists for Madeleine. He is convinced to keep the focus on the search for a live child. If they stopped their campaign, then people will forget about Madeleine. Hope and the tireless public campaign is the KEY to finding her.
Public opinion is a fickle thing; the public has a very short memory and easily gets bored. Two months after Madeleine’s disappearance the story has become stale with no new developments (which was extremely distressing for the McCanns) and then the McCanns became suspects (which is a terrible position to be in; being accused of killing your own child) but as a consolation, the new developments have inadvertently ignited public attention and the media back again. Some of you might say that the attention is on the parents not on Madeleine, but every time the parents get mentioned so does Madeleine’s name and her photos.

Lucky man,
At least give me the courtesy of an answer. What is your opinion?

I do take your points on board. Any publicity is, in one way or another, good publicity because it reflects on the fact Madeleine is missing and keeps the case alive in the public domain. Can't remember any other case provoking such interest, apart from Diana of course! But she was internationally known before the event. One expression in your post stood out for me. You are so right, we are very fickle in our opinions. The continuing interest will hopefully keep this case high profile, and we can only hope that this will mean an eventual conclusion to it. I can only hope that it is a good one.

Given all this it is now possible that the only now to identify, and as time goes on more so, Madeleine will be the iris of one of her eyes. If she is still alive given that children change drastically over very short periods of time direct identification will become less easy, as shown by the number of children sighted as her, so that in a year or so the Iris and DNA will be the only method of proving who the child is. In fact the likely time for finding her would be if a passport was applied for and required DNA and an Iris scan.

yes, even negative publicity is just that, publicity.the worse thing for the mccanns right now would be for the media, and public to lose interest.as you said at least people are remembering this child.although sometimes it seems as if the focus moves away from madelaine in the furore generated by the mccann witch hunt.

I see your point, although it has of course fuelled the neanderthals who see it as proof that the McCanns were involved and therefore want to lynch them - which has necessitated that the family has protection.
But as Kate McCann herself said, "I will take anything they throw at me" because all she is really concerned about is finding Madeleine.
If she is alive, I believe they will find her because of this extraordinary campaign and interest from media all over the world.

Makes perfect sense.
It does take a lot of courage to stand firm & persistent in the face of such adverse media coverage as faced by the McCanns. They do it for their Madeleine.

It is like the comment James Hewitt made about Diana shortly after her death. he stated that her dying had done wonders for her image and made her popular again.

Yes.
if only Cuddle Cat could talk and tell us where she is

-- Madeleine's mother had said the person who took her child put Cuddle Cat high up in a place where the child herself could never have left it.

One hell of a way to get publicity. But like the man said?

Why aren't you taking such an obsessive interest in a much more important issue, like war or poverty?

Your forensic scrutiny of McCann news coverage is time that could be much better spent I'm sure.
