basically, the key to make money is to have decent business sense.

Simply put: be aware of what is demanded, and sell whatever has a decent demand. Merch everything else, cos its simply not worth the time to try and sell it - the time could be spent getting more items to sell.

And don't waste your money by buying "prestige" items - minipets, elite armour etc. While they are nice, they can cost a lot and in the case of the armour, you can get just as good armour for 1k. By all means get them at some stage, just wait until you have accumulated enough gold, and are in a position to reliably make a decent ammount when needed.

Also be aware of insignia and dye prices, and be aware of what is valuable at the traders - gves good indication to the demand and likely price for those items.

Shahi has some good advice. Guild Wars is not a very expensive "gold consuming" game. You can buy max armor and max weapons and have a very capable competitive character for very little gold.

The luxury items on the other hand cost. The first thing you want to do is decide what luxury items you really want and which ones hold no interest for you. There are several Elite armors in the game that can cost 100k+ or even close to a million for Obsidian. Rare minipets can cost over a million. Nice rare skinned weapons can sell for 100k+

Just make a list of your goals ingame and save up for those items. Make a budget. Don't start spending every gold piece you find on keys and lockpicks.

Personally, I don't farm. I just play thru the game normally and I make plenty of gold to fund my needs. I currently have 170k in storage and I've spent at least 3 times that amount on titles and skills.
