Not entirely the best move by Ken Holland, but not a bad one either. Todd Bertuzzi's job was to simply add some size and toughness on the ice down the stretch and deep into the playoffs. The fact Bertuzzi had 3 goals and 4 assists in the 16 playoff games as a Wing was a bonus for a guy coming off of injuries. I don't believe he was the one-ice "X-factor" Holland was hoping he'd be, but Bertuzzi did contribute and the Wings did reach the conference finals after 3 previous seasons of futility. In spite of what he did to Steve Moore in 2004, Bertuzzi was still considered a threat to score and worth gambling trading Shawn Matthias and the two conditional draft picks.

Well during the trade, I think the Wings were hoping that Bertuzzi would re-sign with them. As we all know, the Wings would only offer 1 year contracts because of recent injury and Bertuzzi wanted a longer term and he signed for 3 years with Anaheim. The Wings didn't lose all those draft picks, because not all the qualifications were met.

first off mike . . . c'mon injury is different than washed up
second to the questioner injury is different than washed up
think what you want about bertuzzi, but you cant get on him about 2 goals or whatever . . . he was and is hurt
are you saying hasek is no good . . . he gets hurt all the time
that said mike you are right he has yet to prove himself at all, but I think this is his best chance on the ducks
and to the questioner of course not the wings got nothing out of bertuzzi the only net thing that happened was they lost a prospect. if anything it could hurt them if he can actually turn it around and they get to face the ducks in the playoffs . . .

Holland's more upset at Bertuzzi for taking a lower offer to sign with Anaheim instead of what he offered (1.25MM higher)

I think it was a godd move letting him go. He is not the same player he used to be. I could easily point the finger to the Moore incident as the start of the end for him, but it is also age and injuries. I'd rather groom some younger players than deal with that.

I don't think anyone with that kind of baggage is worth it. I would be ashamed if my team traded for Bertuzzi even if he was producing.

Bertuzzi is washed up. I've said all along he will never amount to anything after the Moore hit. People were picking him to be comeback player of the year, well where's his comeback?

bourgois: I understand injury is different than washed up, but what if you're injured ALL THE TIME??? He seems to be.

Chelios did no longer like Bert yet they have been given alongside whilst Bert became a Wing. I observed numerous video games the place you need to confirm the two guffawing and conversing. Chelios and Kariya are not getting alongside. yet i'm particular if Kariya might become a Wing it does no longer be a issue.

Bertuzzi isn't worth a bag of used pucks any more.

I am not sure but he has helped the Anaheim Ducks offensively by setting the tempo pretty well. He did a great job when he went to London.
