A human cheek cell looks a bit like the outline drawing of a fried egg. The outer border of the egg white is the plasma membrane (or cell membrane). The egg yolk is the nucleus. At 40x, you would not see much at all, maybe just a little flaky looking shape. At 400x you would see the borders of the cell and the nucleus, so you would be able to label the cell membrane and nucleus. You would also see little grayish dots scattered around in the cytoplasm, but you would not be able to identify any of these as any particular organelles. But the cytoplasm would not just appear to be clear. All of this is assuming that you have stained the cell with iodine or another appropriate stain.

The onion cells have a cell wall, so their structure is more grid-like. They will be arranged in a geometric pattern. It almost looks like bamboo if it's stained. The epithelial cheek cells will be much more fluid. You will be able to see a large nucleus, and the cells will be folded over each other. Their shape isn't uniform like the onion cells. They look like little blobs. You should google image search to see for yourself if that would be helpful.
