Duck is when a batsman gets out for 0
A golden duck is when a batsman gets out only facing one ball
If you get out without facing a ball it is called a diamond duck
( It happned in school,we were plying a game of cricket,I was a defensive opener and a fast runner whine my freing ran a little slow, but hit a a lot of 6s....We had a large total to chase so we decided to keep my friend on strike....I played a shot into the gaps.......Unfortunately a good fielder dived and stopped our single...We were running and my friend got run out 0 from 1 ball.....we somehow managed to win the match )
Hope I helped

In the team I used to play for duck literally stood for "DUCK"!!! Because if one of my team mates got out for 0 he would throw his cricket bat across the changeroom.

But the earlier entry is correct - 0 looks like a duck egg and was shortened to just duck. It is also called (in Australia) a gozza and a blob.

It is a bit unclear as to the origins, but seems to refer to "duck egg",where 0 looks like a ducks egg,so ,out for a duck=0.

As you have rightly stated, when abatsman gets out for zerp, it is called duck.

The name is believed to come from the shape of the number "0" being similar to that of a duck's egg.
