France - different time zone and midnight is earlier

UK is on Greenwich Mean Time, France is slightly further East and an hour earlier on Central European Time.

Edit: The example would be when it is midnight in France and celebrating the new year, it is 11PM in the UK.

France of course, because of time zones. The sun rises in the east, and France is east of the UK. So when it is midnight in France it is only 11:00 pm in the UK so the British will celebrate the New Year one hour later than the French.

And in New York people will celebrate it 6 hours after the French, in LA 9 hours later, etc. It all depends on the time zones the countries/cities are in. The further east, the earlier they get into the New Year.

Lived in both countries .. UK has just moved from BST to GMT so they are on different times at this moment is is 5:23 am in UK and 6:23 in France which means UK should see the New Year first .. but the French use Central European time and therefore they are always one hour ahead of the UK

England, because the prime meridian passes through Greenwich, England. New Year's Eve has to go all the way around the world before it gets to France, so they celebrate last.
