Do you wonder if God was angry with him for abandoning the ministry to follow after dogs? I have to believe your question is a play on spelling, God and dog being so alike in that way. Should he want to hear God coming, or is the bell on a collar? Was God replaced by dogs and so are we to reason that he later may have replaced dogs with God?
He might hang a bell around God's neck.
