I read the article in Yahoo news and it mentioned that late night shows would be hard hit first. I wondered if soap writers were striking too. I love my GH! I mean they are on everyday, one would think that they would be hard hit if those writers were to go on strike!

soaps will be affected though we won't notice anything for awhile- soap generally film episodes 3 weeks in Advance of their airing and they have some scripts stockpiled for a few weeks-if the strike goes on longer than 2 months then things may change

Yes. When they run out of scripts the shows will shut down production. Then they will broadcast old repeats of something else that you could care less about.

All this because the corporations that own the TV studios don't want to pay royalties (I read it was a couple of pennies per DVD - under 5 - 10cents) to the writers for their work. The story was on CNN. How cheap can you get? These corporations make billions off of DVD sales, why not pay the people who wrote them a few cents? Songwriters get royalties, why not TV writers?

Yes, but considering the way they're usually written it might actually lead to an improvement. I don't know about other soaps, but monkeys with typewriters could do better than the current GH writers.

I think the cast should go to work and improvise, live. :) I watched one soap, 'The Edge of Night', 50 years ago. It was done live, and maybe all of them were then. That was a really good soap.

I saw CNN this morning. They said that Daytime soaps will be the second hardest hit. I don't know how long I will be able to go without General Hospital either......:(
