To all the smokers out there! There is a commercial on tv with the young looking lady (30's) saying you can quit if you have the motivation for living, suffering from cancer herself who has now passed away in January from lung cancer caused by smoking...
Does watching that commercial make you very sad and think twice next time you feel like a cigarette? Did the commercial make an impact on you? How did watching the commercial make you feel?
I'm a smoker myself and it actually did make me think twice & have cut down ever since it's been repeated over & over on tv.
Would like to know your opinion?

It makes no difference. I know that smoking causes cancer, in fact everyone that smokes knows. Its a matter of caring about it.

My Dad is fighting lung cancer.. he's losing. I finally quit because of what smoking related illness does to those around you. Watching my Mum try to cope; seeing the pain it gives my brother; how it's affected me personally and the changes I've had to make to my life to help deal with illness on a day to day basis; looking at the grandkids and thinking that they'll never remember Dad when he was healthy.

Dad's resigned himself to the fact that he's brought this upon himself but he regrets what this is doing to all of us. It's been 8 months now and we could all still be doing this in 2 years time. I don't know if I hope we are or I hope we aren't. I know far more than I want to about chemo/ radiation /and my Dad's bodily fluids.

If you smoke... chances are you won't be lucky enough to have a stroke and die. Who's going to look after you as you waste away? Do you really want to do that to the people that you love?

I have never seen that commercial but I do smoke. I'm 17 and have been smoking for over 4 years and it's something I enjoy very much. Everyone says that smoking is bad and you'll get cancer and yada yada yada.

But I figure dying is inevitable, whether it's from cancer or being shot, i might as well go doing something I like !

p.s my Grandfather has been smoking for over 50+ years and has not had any type of cancer or illness whatsoever. talk about ironic !

I don't really watch that much TV.

It would have made an effect on me, even reading it did.

But, people die everyday from smoking. I know I will get lung cancer. It's just when I decide to quit that makes the question a factor.

There have been some that have made an impression but nothing like seeing my own mother suffer and die from lung cancer. What troubles me too is that this occurred 5 years AFTER she had quit. It may seem illogical but it seems that it was not the smoking that caused the cancer but the quitting? Crazy right?

I haven't seen this advertisement. I probably would feel bad seeing the advertisement, but it probably wouldn't make me quit. I have been smoking a long time, and have tried several times to quit. Some people say they have quit after seeing their mother/father die from cancer. I can cut down too, but can't quit. It's an addictive, nervous habit that I can't seem to control.

None of those commercials have ever had much of an effect on me. Smoking is a choice and people know what the consequences are.

I have not seen it and probably won't as I don't watch tv--but no, it would not sway me. I have known people to die of lung cancer and never smoked one cigarette in their life. Have known others to die at 90 of old age and smoked all of their lives. We will die when we die. We have to die someway. No insult intended here, please. Just my opinion. LOL

Addition--I have also observed what "imagined" said. Not the smoking but after quiting.

I am not a smoker but please let me give my opinion. Smoking for me is like killing yourself. I've tried it once and will never try it again. I don't get any benefits from it but only making you die young. So, be smart, don't let cigarettes outwit you! It's just a piece of 'thing' make you look stupid when you put it in your mouth.
