The first home I moved into after running away from my parents house was a run down little house in a really bad neighborhood. The first night, it snowed just a little bit. I woke up to find foot prints on my back porch. Someone was trying to break in. Since then, every night until I moved out of there I checked EVERYTHING!! I was only 15 and I was on my own. I was terrified. I was happy at the time when my military application finally went through and five months later, I was living in a barracks.

about 2 weeks ago someone broke into our car and stole our radio/CD player. And I am so afraid now that someone could break into our townhouse(afraid since what happen when I was a kid their are bad ppl out there)!!.We did live in apartment upstairs so I felt real safe, now we moved to the other side of the complex --same location bigger place for the new baby(been her for a month or going on two).now I double check the front door and deck door so they are locked, make sure I put the big board behind the deck door. Then leave a light on in the kitchen.I usually check the windows too! I am always the last one in bed too! If I hear a noise I check my son first.I always keep the closet doors open.
I am all paranoid now. I am not use to being here.
I miss our apartment-we lived there 1 1/2.
great question

LOL. you are not a nutcase. I do the same thing. I even do that before i leave the house. I have to make sure the curling iron and stove is off, that all windows and patio door is locked. there have been so many times that i have gotten into bed to only get back up to yet again check everything.

When I was a small kid I had to have my bedroom door open with a hall light on or I would freak out and be really scared. I had nightmares too. Of course, all this happened after a very bad car accident which somehow affected my security well being. After a long time I got over it but if I watch a really scary movie now it gets me to thinking about dark areas in my bedroom when I go to sleep but that's pretty rare to happen to me these days, thank goodness!

Yes I have, and no you're not. It's a good idea to check your doors, windows, and patio before you go to bed anyway, not just when you are scared and all jumpy!

I don't go around checking everything, I'm more scared of having disturbing nightmares since I have a very vivid imagination after watching some dark psychological thriller or horror/scifi/fantasy films.

Yes, sometimes I get creeped out and I don't know why. Most of the time I don't even lock the doors at night.
