Pros:
Its cheap. Great way to see scenery. You can doze off, or read or listen to music. Much safer, statistically, than driving.

Cons: Lots of depressing poor people, some of them weird looking. Stations in ghettos with terrible overpriced snacks. Hard to sleep in the seats, which could use some more legroom especially if you're tall. Tend to be late, poor customer service.

You will probably arrive feeling groggy and grungy.

Bottom line: I can kind of enjoy bus trips, especially if its scenic or to somewhere new, but it can also be a bit of an ordeal. It depends on how much you value comfort and convenience.

If you do it I advise:
Unless you the scenery is great, have something to read or do or you will go insane.
Take your own food.
Keep an eye on your luggage, you have to do it yourself personally on each transfer.
Sleeping pill!
Take the departure with the best scenery in daylight.

by the way, do you mean washington state or DC? Because the latter really is a long ride. Check greyhound.com, but usually bus time is *much* longer than car driving time.

If its to WA state, well, personally, if time was not a problem, I'd at least consider doing it, but that's just me. For every extra hour on the bus vs. the plane, you're maybe making $8 in savings. That may or may not be worth it to you- I'd rather get paid for riding a bus than, say, flipping burgers :)

Wow that is a long *** ride. Look into Amtrak if you are looking to save a few dollars. probably about the same rate if not a lil more expensive. If all else fails suck up the 150 loss and fly. you will be there a lot sooner without the aches and pains of a 20 hr ride. Work a lil overtime or get a mower and mow some lawns to make up for the 150

I took Greyhound to Las Vegas one time, and not because it was going to save me a bunch of money. I enjoy car trips so I thought it would be an interesting way to see the country.

I would NOT get on a Greyhound bus again, even with a gun to my head.

Fly, go Amtrak, drive your car, ANYTHING but Greyhound.

I think it's a long time to sit in a bus. And that 20 is if they run on time. I would find it hard to travel that way, I like to get to where I am going so I can spend the time doing what I want to do. 150 buck saving for 20 hours, not worth it in my book.

Some have suggested Am-trak, you may want to do that. But I would fly. It's the only way to go

and they were trapped! so I hate greyhound!
do NOT USE GREYHOUND (plus I can tell of many
horror stories where driver didn't even know how
to get to Seattle from Portland! or the bus broke down
and the passengers had to walk on the freeway 3 miles
to the station or
you are lied too! Oh yea we have second section coming
yeah 24 HOURS LATER!
YOU ARE RISKING YOUR LIFE IF YOU TAKE GREYHOUND

Despite that savings, it's a hard ride. Too many problems to deal with. The long ride, dirty bathrooms on board the bus, and rest stops, older and dirtier people to deal with. What's the only benefit? The sightseeing is better. If I were you, I'd reconsider and take a plane instead. More comfortable, quicker and cleaner. Sometime saving a few bucks, isn't worth it.

Please don't do it. It's not a 20 hour ride. It's a 3 day ride from hell and that bus will stop at least 100 times along the route.
The summer travelling period is over and you can get reasonable fares at the moment. Try.

Southwest airline vacations they are currently running some specials to Las Vegas. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/special.html

Check Expedia.com or go to Priceline.com and name your price to Vegas, chances are you will get that price.

Looks like an insane idea (motorcoach in the USA can be frightening). Fly instead.
