Well let me tell you that unless you are a mutual fund manager, investing and then monitoring 167 stocks can be quite unnerving. That's a bit like stretching 'diversification' too far. Invest in no more than 50-60 stocks, is my recommendation and you would reap more returns since you would be able to monitor and periodically rebalance your portfolio relatively well.

I assume you mean 167 shares of the same company. Its hard to say "the most" you can get. It's possible you'd get phenominal returns like Microsoft did. I haven't see the latest figures, but I think over the long term the average annual increase is arounf 12-13%, but it varies tremendously depending on the company. Warren Buffett's average return is around 23% over the long term. And just because it is a good company does not necessarily mean it is a good buy. You have to make sure it is not overpriced. I recommend being very cautious if you are inexperienced. Perhaps invest in a low fee index fund, or least very stable companies like Coke or Johnson & Johnson - if the price is right.

As a practical point of view, the commission costs associated with 167 purchases of $60 each is quite steep. Better try to narrow your selection down to about 5. BTW, the price of a stock has very little to do with it's performance.
