Probably the best true story about the Holocaust is 'Night', by Elie Wiesel. Another famous one is 'The Diary of Anne Frank'. There are countless novels about the subject; one breat one is 'Sophie`s Choice' by Styron.

There are also countless novels about the Civil War, as well as many biographies and autobiographies. There are many popular recent Civil War novels, but my favorite is a classic, 'The Red Badge of Courage' by Crane.
