Well, you won't get arrested; you've done the best you could. Did you ever check back to see if the car you hit was still there? If you didn't hit it too hard, they probably overlooked it or just chalked it up to an inconsiderate hit-and-run driver. You should have taken down the VIN number (usually visible through the front windshield) or the car-tag and from that you can get the info you need.

Sorry to tell you this but it is still considered a hit-and-run even though your intentions were honorable.
Leaving notes isn't really a good thing to do either just in case they total the car, then you would be liable.
Here is what you need to do.
Go to your police department to see if anyone turned in any hit-and-run reports and the type of vehicle it deals with.
If the cost is under $500 usually they will let you and your insurance company work it out.
Now here is the sticky part. If the vehicle you were driving was uninsured you could be looking at a stiff fine. If they weren't insured then they are S.O.L.
Let your insurance agent know what happened, just in case the party is also insured by the same company.
Don't just let it go. That is the wrong thing to do. If you get a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident then live with it.
I know a guy who is facing second degree murder charges for leaving the scene of an accident and his passenger was killed in the wreck.

The police will not arrest you. This accident is really called an incident. You made a failed attempt to be honest and chances are....this is over for you. This incident happened on private property and the police will usually not give this any attention. Now if you live in a small town where everybody knows you...it could come back on you. I think you should take a deep breath, eat some ice cream and stop worrying.

I'd call the cops and tell them. They shouldn't arrest you if you tell them the truth. They do, however, take hit and run seriously, which is technically what you did. It's not hit and run if you report it and be honest. But if someone saw you hit the car and told the cops and you haven't told them yet, you could get in a lot of trouble. Chances are the owner of the car didn't do anything anyway, but its much better to be safe than sorry.

Don't worry about it. I'm sure if they would have hit your car, they would have just took off. You won't get arrested if you call the police, but they'll probably make a case about it, like call it a hit an run or such. I would just let it be, don't worry about it, seriously!

you could find out, who owns the parking lot and see if they had cameras so that they could at least track him down.
