Yes I realize buisnesses create technology but the question is realated to how it hurts it . Maybe we can find a solution of some kind. I think we have less independant inventors then we should and it may have something to do with china and other countries that steal or big companies that put they're own profits above the qualitiy of life of an average joe like myself.

Big business looks at the big picture as it affects them. If a new technology comes up that would hurt their profits, they will do anything to slow it down or stop it until it can help them.

This is assuming they have the ability to influence the technology. We all know that computers are an area where innovation and invention actually drive up business. This would be a clear example of an industry built on short term obsolescence of their product. But car companies would have to pay millions or more to re-outfit factories and such to keep up with changes in technology. Thus, they plan year in advance to release new features.

I believe the converse of the first statement and your question. Most modern technology is a direct result of big business. Some of the technology was originally pioneered by the government but it took the private sector of "big business" to bring it to the public. Examples: Computers and Microsoft, Automobiles and Ford, iPods and Apple. If it wasn't for "big business's'" quest for profits, there would be no motivation to create innovative, cutting edge technologies that make the companies money.

If this is a homework question, shame on your teacher.

Big business wants to continue to be BIG business. If new technology will cut into their profits, they will either buy the rights to the product or manage to prevent the materials from being purchased. Don't think it cannot be done. It happened to Tucker when he introduced a new car but could not find a steel supplier.
