I have a 1994 325i BMW. It has a new radiator, hoses, and head gasket. It seems that every couple days I have to add coolant to the radiator. What is going on? Is is because I am using my air conditioner frequently? Please help.

You've got a leak somewhere. Worst case is a leak in your head gasket. Your air conditioner is a completely different system that doesn't involve the engine coolant. Assuming you are not overheating (and losing coolant that way)..? If your engine is overheating, it might be due to the fan not coming on.

The coolant is for cooling the engine not for cooling the air conditioning. My guess is that after replacing the hoses and gaskets and ll the work the radiator was not filled correctly. Worst case scenario, the head gasket coulda been craked if the bolts were tightened incorrectly

Somewhere there is a leak. Water pump, hoses, overflow bottle cracked. Somewhere there is a leak. If your thermostat is not functioning properly this will cause the vehicle to overheat and the coolant will come out of the overflow bottle hose. If this happens it will happen right when you shut the vehicle off and you typically will hear it AND see it pour out under the car. If it's the water pump it will leak slower out the weep hole at the water pump. If it's a hose it will typically spray and you will see coolant inside the engine compartment. Take it to a qualified mechanic to have it checked. You may find yourself stranded soon. good luck

you need to -put a item called dye in the system and then look for a leak it sounds like you might have a leak somewhere on your beammer who did the work take it back they did not do the job correctly otherwise you would not have to install the fluid all the time think about it it didnt leak when it was new now did it only when you found out that you needed all those parts right? good luck the dye can be gotten from any radiator shop or other good supply house good luck

It most likely is because you have a leak in the system. The one thing that comes to mind, is the heater core. The AC unit has nothing to do with the coolant. You didn't mention if you had leaks underneath the car if it is parked and the engine is running.

One one car I had, it had a vacuum heater control valve on it and the diaphragm had a leak and the coolant was being sucked into the engine and burned in the engine.

No. Running the A/C has nothing to do with it. You have a leak somewhere. You need to have the entire cooling system checked by a qualified mechanic. Could be water pump, hose(s) heater core, internale engine leak (gasket, crack, etc.). Get it checked out soon. It is not advisable to continue to drive it in this condition.

It could be a faulty head gasket thats allowing coolant to be "eaten" by the engine. An easy way to tell is to start your car cold and smell the exuast for just a second and if it smells sweet thats most likley your problem. ps I'm not telling you to continue smelling untill you feel a buzz this is a legitimate way to figure out what wrong with your car

Once its full, you shouldn`t have to keep adding more every other day. It may be leaking somewhere, or else the head gasket wasn`t put on correctly.

if your having to add that much to it that means you still have a leak somewhere, and it needs to be found really soon, that's not normal at all to have to add that much coolant to it,id take it back to who ever fixed it and have it re-checked,something is still wrong with it,good luck on it.
