Are you willing to consider the idea that it is not, in fact, a form of racism?
P.S. Islam is a RELIGION, not a race.
And if your homework actually requires you to believe that the Patriot Act is racist, may I suggest finding an instructor who is not so enamored with Noam Chomski or Howard Zinn?

It isn't. Your teacher/professor is a liberal or libertarian who hates anything that this administration does.
It also does not effect any rights of citizens, nor checks and balances concerning American citizens.
I will get a lot of thumbs down for this from people who have not read the Patriot Act...which I am also certain that your teacher/professor has not either. (And you will get a lot of liberal lies and talking points) I have read both the original and the revised version, and there is NOTHING racist about either one.
miz...maybe you ought to read the Patriot Act. It specifically prohibits racial profiling. The dumb thing is that we should racially profile. And when some 90 year old white woman flies a plane into a building, we can start racially profiling them, too. The best air security in the world is the Israelis...why? Because they racially profile.
Balrog...well put. I SAY GIVE YOU THE 10 POINTS!
Ambee...although we SHOULD be able to do that, the Patriot Act specifically prohibits racial profiling. You really need to stop listening to liberal talking points and take the time to read the act itself. You will be amazed what is NOT in there.
EDIT: It does NOT take rights and freedoms from AMERICANS. It does define that terrorist suspects WHO ARE NOT CITIZENS are not afforded the same rights by our Constitution....and they should not be.

The Patriot Act on paper alone is not racist. The fatal flaw to the Patriot act comes into play when you factor in the human element, just like communism. It unfortunately gives flawed human beings who may or may not be racist, themselves and who already have insurmountable political pull, the power to conduct racial profiling at will. It allows our government to go essentially unchecked, all in the name of 'homeland security' . And when you combine that with an unfounded fear of a specific nationality the ending result is oppression, abuse of peoples, and chaos from within the system as people fight for rights that America is supposed to stand for. Not to mention the countless civil rights violations that entails. So, how this Act is Racist is the potential it has to allow personal prejudices ruin peoples lives under the false front of holding questionably innocent people prisoner in unnamed locations, taping phone calls, and monitoring our emails as being 'for our own good'. But, like many systems, when it works it works very well, and when it fails, it is a total disaster. Well, this is one disaster that I am afraid to see through to the end....

I'm not so sure the Patriot Act is a form of racism, but more that the Act "creates" racism.
One of the things the Patriot Act allows is for the U.S. to be harder on immigrants. Since the US is a melting pot, it's really more about "us vs. them" than anything else. That, in and of itself, creates a idea that those different from us are the enemy.
The Act was created because of the 9/11 attacks, and because of the 9/11 attacks, many Americans are racists against Muslims.

It is not in any way a form of Racism! It is to protect us from the Islamic Terrorists who want to kill all Americans. Common sense dictates that certain People fit the profile of an ISLAMIC PERSON, MORE THAN OTHERS.
Extreme Liberals try to convince others that this is a racial profile. It is stupid, but some people are going to be Politically Correct, EVEN IF IT KILLS THEM!

People are going to tell you that it is profiling and that is discriminates against people based on physical appearance, accent, or name (as in Arabic, etc) That is where the racism comes in. They will tell you it violates civil rights. I, for one, think that the Patriot Act is a good thing, but that isn't what your homework is about. I think it is a shame that your school is teaching that our government's attempts to safeguard our country is a form of racism. Good luck with your assignment.

It isn't. No provision of the Act singles out a certain race. It's a law designed to combat terrorism. Assuming that most of the Salafist Jihadists are Semetic Arabs, that doesn't make them members of a different race. They are Caucasians. Even those from the "Magarib" (North Africa).
If your teacher doesn't understand what racism is (assuming he or she is the one who gave you this question to answer) then I feel sorry for you. Good luck on getting an education from that person.

An instance of it Happened to Oprah Winfrey on a shopping tour in NYC and then in France and even though they knew who she was, they curtly told her She Looked Like one of them....You are guilty based on looks and skin color. It is Intolerant of left wing liberal that cannot distinguish the difference...
THE EXTREME:US soldiers have been labeled terrorists at the airlines. It is an upside down way of looking at things. In some cases it is a violation of the Bill of Rights and US Constitution. It is permissible in times of war. Americans on the other hand have become sheepish in questioning the validity of questionable authority when it comes doen to their Freedoms and sometimes too willing to give up their personal privacy.

it's not racist, it spans all races and religions and it says so in the documents themselves. That's why it sucks, cause it applies to everyone. Though obviously under the pretext of existing Islamo-Phobia...but there is no claus targeting any specific race...I heard that 80% of Mosques are concidered radical by the state though, but i don't think this is directly related to the Patriot Acts. Having graduated Highschool I regret not challenging my teacher's beliefs...Do so, not from my point of view but your own.

I dont think its a form of racism, but Im not a minority, so i dont see things that way. It might be, i guess. For now, i dont think its particularly unfair in-and-of itself, we just need to be careful when compromising any of our rights.
