I personally think the Media is feeding it to us. Hormones also do a number on us. We feel pressured to compare and judge instead of accepting others as they are. And I am also guilty of it.

I'm not sure it has anything to do with today, I mean like - now. Youth have always been distracted, I guess I am Gen-X, Kurt Cobain was clearly a prototypical example from my era, but roll out the usual suspects, Eddie Vedder, Liam Gallagher... then before them, Paul Weller - a very angry young man, Ian Curtis (Joy Division - interestingly almost mirroring a gen before, Cobain) the sex pistols, punk ... before that rock and roll was just a rebellion against authority.

I wonder if it is a feeling of powerlessness, the world is run mostly by white middle aged, extremely wealthy men. They are totally screwing it up... To live a good life mostly you have to participate in the entire nonsense...

It perhaps used to be about rebellion, I think today it is out of a sense of despair, that they are about to inherit a world that is totally screwed. (by the way I am 44) I'm still not at peace - because of these same issues.

I wonder if the supposed "peace" is infact just compliance.

How can anyone be at peace when you look around the world at what is happening. It's a lot worse than when I was in my 20s.

Well if I had to look back 20 years at myself this is what I would say.... In my teens it was HORMONES they dominated and controlled me like I was a slave. I could only focus on how I looked as to attract the opposite sex and to be more beautiful than the other girls. I know that sounds shallow but true. In my 20's it was all about making money and my mark on the world. All my waking thoughts were about being successful and I wasn't at peace because I never thought I was successful enough. But all this changed...I had a baby and that brought me peace, love and total contentment. I guess when you can step outside of yourself to can obtain this state of being?

In no particular order:
Modern communications--TV--shows a world going mad, often forgetting to show the world that is surviving nicely, thank you.
Modern philosophy says that all philosophies are equal. So how is a young person to chose? And how is he to say with conviction that another person is morally wrong when all philosophies are the same? Or to know if he is morally right?
It is part of nature, mixed up hormones and thoughts not yet turned solid from experience.
As the man said in the movie "Network," "TURN OFF YOUR TVs."

i agree with the girl who said the media is responsible. no ine sits you down and tells you this is whats important. so you take your cues from what you see. and what we see is unfocused, mindless, and madening. Its designed to have us scared and neurotic
