I missed my period in oct and now nov (due on 2nd of every month)...I thought my cycle was just jacked up due to stress since I just moved to Japan from america. Anyway I took a home test for pregnancy and turned up positive on oct 23rd. I still was in denial because im 28yrs old and tried to get pregnant for most of my adult life and it never happend.

Anyway here is the question... is my baby going to be healthy even though I smoked? I smoked throughout this entire 9 weeks and I feel like a loser, I hate myself right now, and I feel selfish and shouldve listened to my body telling me it was preggers. Will my baby be fine. I quit as soon as my blood test came back positive today. Help me, im having a hard time living with myself and I dont think this depression will subside because i Put the baby at risk in the name of a drag off a cig:(

Of course you are not a loser. A loser would not care so much and would not even try to quit smoking. If you are quitting now, your baby will be fine.
Most of the problems with smoking mothers is that their babies are often premature. If you stop now, you are giving your baby a chance at full-term and good health.
And, don't you dare start again after you have the baby. You need to be healthy for that baby for the rest of your life!!!
Be well, and don't be so hard on yourself. Just really quit - forever!!!
Congratulations and best to you both!!! Hugs!!!

Don't listen to all these people putting you down. You didn't know that you were pregnant till you found out. The baby should be healthy if you don't smoke anymore throughout the pregnancy. There is a chance it could come out sick. It's okie and you're not a loser! Don't be depressed. Depression won't help the baby much either. So cheer up, it'll be okie, and don't listen to the Neg things on here. God will help your baby come out healthy and fine. Keep your head up. God Bless and good luck!

Smoking during pregnancy appears to raise the risk of miscarriage or premature labor. But the primary danger is hindered fetal growth. Nicotine depresses the appetite at a time when a woman should be gaining weight, and smoking reduces the ability of the lungs to absorb oxygen. The fetus, deprived of sufficient nourishment and oxygen, may not grow as fast or as much as it should.

If a woman quits smoking early in pregnancy, she can still improve her chances of having a healthy baby. Expectant fathers or other members of the family should quit, too, because studies suggest breathing second-hand smoke may be dangerous as well.

That said, you're not a horrible person, and you are *VERY* early and have quit. Don't worry, just know the risks if you should be tempted to start again!

CONGRATS!

Stop beating yourself up over smoking during the first 9 weeks of your pregnancy. Take this as an opportunity to put all bad habits behind you starting today! Quit smoking, avoid alcohol, limit you caffeine intake, eat a healthy diet, get plenty of rest, and try to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. You will have a healthy baby when all is said & done, and you will be healthier too!

Good luck!

No, you'll be fine and the baby is too, after all you didnt know. Its differrent when people know and still do it but not knowing is another story. Stop beating yourself up. Try to quit or atleast cut back dramaticlly. The less the better. But none at all is great. Babies are born everyday and have problems worse than asthma or respiratory problems and their parents didnt do ant thing wrong whie pregnant, so think of it that way. Your only making your baby upset when you stress out, also think about that... good luck...

Relax! A friend of mine smoked the entire time she was pregnant (not something I would do, but oh well!) and her baby was born healthy! I am proud that you have stopped smoking! A lot of people do things they shouldn't when pregnant because they don't know they are pregnant. I wouldn't be so hard on yourself, because that could cause more problems! Best wishes!!!!!!

No, you are NOT a loser because you're quitting. If you were to continue smoking and ignore the risk of harming the baby, then my answer would be a yes. However, you're doing something about it and it's the first step in ensuring that your child will be healthy when he/she arrives. Best of luck!

Dont listen to these ppl whith negative responses. You have quit now and thats the main thing. Its not just smoking that could harm your baby. There are many things like drinking, eating the wrong foods, exesive excersise. My mother smoked, drank while pregnant with me. I was a healthy baby. Dont beat yourself up over it. Talk to your doctor, im sure they will asure you. Good luck !!!

Don't stress yourself out even more! Stress isn't good for you either!! Slow down your smokind drastically starting now and just work your way towards quitting..just make it soon =) Don't stress too much. You aren't a loser at all. It's not good to do at all, so don't think I'm condoning it. However, it's not a death sentence. Just be careful, take your prenatals and take care of you and your bun. Good luck!!!
