With so many cheating it makes a person wonder when monogamy became so popular. When we humans socialized to be monogamous. I am not promoting cheating, I am only saying that at one point in humanity it was not the expectation and I am wondering who, where, and why monogamy started.

That should say when were we humans socialized.......
I wonder if it was a man/men or a woman/women who came up with the idea?

The question isnt about cheating, it is about when in the history of humankind did we do lifelong coupling.

I wish there was such a thing as monogamous relationship today. My last 2 serious relationships ended with my man cheating and being caught. It's a very sad way to end a relationship and turns the relationship problems into a whole different meaning. I am going to spend some time alone so maybe I can figure out why it is that I am in this situation again. I certainly feel as though I had a part in it, maybe God did not intend for me to be in a monogamous relationship. I wish he did. There is nothing I would rather than to be the ideal "family".

Actually it was only men who were allowed to cheat, not women. Or not cheat b/c back then hundreds and hundreds of years ago men were allowed to have several partners or wives and Mistresses, so it wasn't considered cheating. But to the same effect women were whores if they were not virgins when they were married or if they slept with other men then their husbands.Plus they were often killed for such actions. So why don't we call today's monogamous relationships as a sort of evening of the playing field. There's no real answer for your where when and how, some cultures have always been monogamous while others have not, some cultures still are not one partner oriented.

easy it was god.. , the unfortunate side is less and less people through out time actually take the bible to heart anymore and im no better id be lying if i tried to say ive gone by what the good book says, but the answers u seek are in there. It wasnt that long ago where the norm was a woman was a virgin when she got married, and was shameful if she wasnt, nor was it that long ago where divorce was a rarity and great shame fell upon those that were divorced.. society has made it socially acceptable to have mulitple partners and made a "sex crazed" world so to speak, the saying "sex sells" and it does every where u look theres sexual content, inuendos, etc.. things that use to be considered taboo.. our grandparents or great grandparents that have past would be horrified to see "victoria secrets" commericals , let alone what they allow of day time tv in soap operas as far as love scenes etc.. because i know in my grandmothers day it was considered bad to wear dresses that didnt go down to the ankle.. but in todays world, it seems the shorter, the tighter and more revealing the better..

It isn't cheating. It's called broadening ones horizons.
Remember the infamous line from The King and I which Yule Brenner uttered.
The bee must go from flower to flower to flower. The flower must never go from bee to bee to bee etcetera etcetera etcetera.
Look at the animal kingdom for a moment if you will.
All male species have multiple partners. It's just that society in general can't accept the harem effect.
The mormons had the right idea back in the 1800s when they were crossing the plains, but because some mucky muck got their noses out of joint they had to ramrod a law through congress that marrage is to be to only one woman.
Now they are trying to forbid gay marriage by passing legislation which spells out marriage to be between one man and one woman. Where do they get off telling us how we absolutely have to live?

i guess it was to protect the rights to private property and inheritance. and it is proven we are wired to be jealous and possessive hormonally.
i do know this for a fact. richer more sophisticated and educated women tolerate cheating husbands.
why? i'll tell ya. cause they dont want to be poor and ruined socially and personally. they are smart enuf to see the bigger picture. many people who claim to dump cheating spouses here on this site seem to miss the fact that if they dump him they and their kids have to start over, and how is that in many cases better? in most cases it is worse worse, hear me, worse than a little cheating!!!! i could write a book on it. i am amazed at the nearly 100% of people who proclaim here that 'once a cheater or liar, always a liar and cheater'. in my years of observing people i know that is not even remotely true. cheating usually has a situational component. it is sometimes not personal against the other partner, it is just for fun, and sometimes it is because of complete neglect by the other partner, who is always devastated, but refuses to see their part in the cheating. hmmmmm.
a man may never intend to leave his wife, but perhaps can be counted on to cheat if he gets the chance...
wives that state here that they would divorce their husband over internet porn are kidding themselves, all men look at internet porn they are not facing reality.

who cares cheating is wrong and anyone who does it is a fag loser, I have never had a girlfriend and I am 19, but I would never ever cheat on some one like that not who I am. I think people dont know what they want and think they found it and then learn that it isnt what they wanted so they cheat
