Probably because it's one of those things in life that's just expected of you. I've been with my fiance for nearly 4 years, and we have no plans to get married any time soon. We just don't see the purpose of it, we don't need a shred of paper to know that we love each other.

Yes, all of the above. Also as a business arrangement, to make kids, sometimes just to raise kids, for companionship, to put an end to the "is he gay" question, to save on taxes, to be a half of a whole. Sometimes, to get away from parental pressure, to legitimize a pregnancy/birth of a child. In some cultures, you aren't considered an adult until you are married (have kids, have a home). Some people think marriage will solve all their problems, bring them happiness, make the spouse always love you and want to be with your only, be love and kisses and joy and happiness always. People get married for all different reason, some good ones, some really lame ones.

I got married because I was and am in love with my husband! We wanted to make a commitment to each other and we wanted to make it legal in the eyes of the Lord! I know many people look down at the wedding vows, I personally think each to his/her own.
Marriage is not for everyone, but there are those who believe in it.

I can't speak for anyone but myself. I got married to my husband because he is my best friend, my beloved, and my dear companion. I wanted not only to spend my life with him, but also to have him as my Family in every aspect of that word. And in our society (American middle class) marriage is the legal way of making two unrelated persons into a family.

What are you talking about.
People get married for all sorts of reasons. I pray to buddha that you know that.
Mostly, people get married because they want to make a committment to the one they love.
That, and the 1,138 federal benefits to marriage.

Love and tradition. I know it sounds corny, but it's true. I always looked forward to loving someone enough to tie the knot and want to spend the rest of my life with that one person. Luckily it happened and my husband and I are happy.

Brainwashed from culture, pop culture, movies, television. Apparently it's the thing to do and then you have kids then your kids have kids and you are a grand parent and then you **** yourself and dribble every day and then you die.
But remember always look on the bright side of life!
